CAPTAINS LOG..... 2013.11.08
on sunday the 11th of august, my marina neighbors, joe and camille (they have a 34' silverton to my starboard side) were my guests aboard ENTERPRISE for a little cruise. phil had mentioned that he wanted to go too, so, before i left the house, i told him to be at the boat no later than 1115. because at 1115:01, the boat would be out of the slip and on her way down river, with or without him. (he showed up at 10am if you believe it). the weather was sunny and warm, calm winds and a slight chop in the channel from all the weekend warriors, jet skis included in the mix. originally i was just going to go at hull speed (still have to arrange for a barnicle scrape and our short haul), roughly 7 to 8 kts, to a place frequented by many a parkside boater, sue creek. we took our time to get there, phil at the helm a majority of the time. he actually loves being behind that wheel. we pass a raftup of several of our friends, 6 vessels in all. after we did a little tour of lower sue creek, we approached the raftup again and i thought that it would be a great experience for phil to see what this kind of boating was like. having never rafted myself with this boat, it was my first experience too. with my crew of 3, lines were exchanged and fenders put out and before i knew it, i was next to my friend jerry and his 25' mini bayliner. at that point, the vessel mix was tri cabin, bayliner, sundancer, sundancer, sundancer, sundancer, mariner. traversing from boat to boat was as simple as swim platform to swim platform. shortly after i rafted, friends of joe and camille's in their new 2012 41' cruisers cantius showed up and rafted to my port side. they will be joining parkside next season as there is a shortage of 50amp slips. joe and linda of LET'S GO O'S cruisers cantius fame provided freshly grilled burgers (they have an electric grill on the aft deck entertainment area) and all the fixings, along with plenty of soda, water, beer and wine. i took part of some kayaking and enjoying the drop in bar stools and 'snack bar' on the swim platform of the cantius. a feature mind you that stopped many a passing boat that afternoon. not a lot of the rafters were familiar with an older trojan, much less the tri cabin, so i gave a few folks a tour. the interior size impressed many if not all, and the general tag line was, ''this looks and feels like a much bigger boat". they also liked the roomy forward deck and molded in seat, and the spacious bridge deck. the bath tub was also a big hit! they also loved the vast amount of interior teak. so i thought i'd share some pics of the day with you all.
(phil enjoying a snooze after swim and lunch)
cantius bar stools on platform and snack bar!
some after lunch exercise on the kayak
so, all in all the day went well. phil saw the side of boating that actually makes things fun. and i believe he had a good time, especially since we did not get back to dock until roughly 1730, AND NO KVETCHING FROM HIM!! sigh, maybe, just maybe, he finally understands.

it was a really fun experience paul. i have to admit, with my fatigue still at an all time high, i was exhausted by the time i got the boat buttoned up (i sent phil home to tend to maccabee) and secured the cabin. naturally, before i left, i had to check in the engine compartment and give it a visual once over. that and to thank the 'girls' for getting us there and back. and let's not forget 'genny'. i ran the heck out of that poor mcck, but, she did what she was supposed to do. keep the fridge running and the beer cold.

Hi AAron.......Very cool. I own a '77 trojan tri cabin and receive similar comments ....."this is more like a small condo or apartment". That is what attracted us to purchase the tri cabin. Thanks for sharing your story with us.......Ken

true jamie. how very very true. even phil had to admit he had a good time. i cannot wait for my next raft up and even though fall is around the corner, there is still plenty of boating time left.
