F32 Grey water tank

Post by 62jpod »

I just purchased a 1988 F32 and will use it on a lake for the 2014 season. I need to install a grey water tank and was wondering if anyone has already attempted this. I am looking for ideas on where to put it, size and plumbing route. I was thinking that the space under the kitchen sink is fairly useless and would house a tank nicely but the size may be limited. I would need to route the shower and bath sink to it and create a pump out thru hull. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks!

Welcome aboard! What lake are you on?

Forum member Commissionpoint did this on his '78 F32 for use on Lake George. He converted the existing water tank to a gray water tank and piggybacked a new water tank on top of the old one. I don't remember if he used an existing, unused thru-hull fitting in the transom or whether he installed a new one. He'll probably turn up here next week after his busy work season ends. In the meantime, you can send him a private message if you're in a rush.

It depends on the lake. Lake George - yes. Lake Champlain - no. Great Lakes - no. Not sure about the Finger Lakes or Winnipesaukee.

ahhh. thanks nancy. appreciate the education on this one. so, all the 'plumbing' that would normally discharge overboard, galley sink, head sink, shower, etc... needs to be centralized into a sort of holding tank for deck pump out evacuation? so no direct overboard discharge allowed eh?

Some lakes are zero discharge. It's not really an issue for me on the Delaware River.

Its funny that they will let you go swimming and let boats discharge engine water but you can't discharge water after you washed your hands.

Thank you for all the interest and suggestions! Yes I am on Lake George, NY and need to put my thru hull hoses into a collapsible 5 gallon jug for now so I don't get fined. I like Commissionpoint's idea, I will look into it! Any other ideas are most welcome and very appreciated! I would like to make it reversible or switchable at some point as I do plan on some trips outside of the Lake in the future.

Can you tie all your thru hull hoses into the piping to the black water holding tank? Saves you space. Additionally, just add a y-valve to all the thru hulls and you can go back to original when you can.

FYI ... I've decided to remove the existing fresh water tank which leaked anyway, some type of fiberglass tank ... not sure if it's original. In it's place goes a new grey water Moeller tank. For now I am going to put in a thru hull and draw my fresh water from the lake just like all the lake front homes do. At some point when I go back to sea, I will install a new fresh water tank and hook up to pump the grey water tank overboard. Thanks for all the suggestions!! :D
