i inspected my gen panel a little further before heading out and, like your panel, the power transfer switch is the exact same design. while there is no OFF label, but, there is a definite detent when going from SHORE to GEN. it has 3 distinct detent modes. i wonder if you had a reverse polarity issue. sounds to me that there is something deeper than just plugging into the 220 side of the dock.

Yeah great question I'm heading down to the boat this morning and will ask someone at the marina how that happened,they just installed all new electrical boxes this year because of storm sandy

If you don't keep one onboard,

(most boaters I know always have one on hand)

take a voltmeter along.
