Changing Gear Ratio in PV Split Case V Drive

Post by The Dog House »

How difficult is it to change the gear ratio in a PV Split Case V drive? I know in the water cooled case it's just a matter of changing the gears (been there, done that). I'm hoping it would be the same for the split case.

Also, I'm pretty sure the PV split case V drive/transmission combo and the PV water cooled V drive/transmission combo are interchangeable. There's no differentiation in the TMI catalog. Am I correct that they are interchangeable?

I picked up a PV33R Model 6B (split case, oil cooled) today to have in my garage as my backup. Hopefully the rebuilt Model 6A (water cooled) V drive I just installed will last at least 10 years, but I feel much better knowing I have a backup sitting in the garage. If I do need to use the PV33R, I'll need to first have the 2:1 gears changed to 1:1 gears (I'll pull the 1:1 gears out of my current V drive). I'll also need to swap out the transmission and V drive since the cooling system is different. From what I've read, the oil cooled system is much better so it should be an improvement if I ever make the swap. I did check the dimensions between the Model 6A and 6B and they are the same, so installation should be pretty straightforward.

FYI, if anyone is interested in buying a PV33 Model 6B, the guy I bought mine from has another one. Send me a PM and I'll send you the contact information.
