What is this !

Post by oldtimer »

Hi Guys, anyone have some idea of what I found down in my aft bilges. I spent the weekend up at the boat, generally cleaning and exploring all the systems. Down in the aft bilge, about 6" fwd of the shower sump pump, almost dead center of the keel is this object, about 1 3/4" dia by approx1" high. Seems to be firmly set in place. I first thought it was a drain plug, but has ne hex shape for a wrench, but it is perfectly round, does not appear to be loose in any way, and feels like it is ceramic rather than metal ? I did not want to try it with a pipe wrench or anything else while she is sitting in the water. After haul-out might try and see if it turns or see if there is ant sight of it outside the hull. Cant figure out how to attach a photo, of which I have a good one. Have fiddled around now for about 20 min and give up. I will read the instructions again on our net on how to upload.

RWS, there are no wires or elect plug in. Is it possible this was a wireless hookup? Just joined up to Photo Bucket to night, will be away for a few days, but will possibly be able to post a photo later this week. Thanks.

A picture would definitely help! If there are no wires, it is less likely to be a pickup for depth sounder or speed transducer. Might be an old sender that has been disconnected and wires chopped off(?). No such thing a wireless when it comes to this stuff.

Transducer with a speed wheel . most have a removable center and a plug to put on its place , thus no wires . Thats my guess . PHOTO

true about the speed wheel coming out of center, but would have a large nut holding the whole device on the bilge side.

Hi guys, just got back home today and decided to try and attach my picture of the mystery ftg. Seems pretty complicated to me to go thru Photo-bucket to post a picture though. Never was good posting photos anyway.

Either the Philadelphia Flyers lost a hockey puck or I won the prize for guessing a thru hull transducer. . . . .

anyway, what is the prize ?

RWS, If when she is hauled out and it turns out to be a transducer, you get a gold star, after 5 gold stars, you are eligible for a free coffee. Cant afford to pass out anything else because I now have a hole in the water where all my money now falls into.........Oldtimer
