1987 10.8m international ?'s
I am about to pull the trigger on an 87 10.8 international sedan flybridge/hardtop and have A few question for experienced owners. The boat appears to be in good shape but I am a bit concerned about 1500 hours on the 454 engines. I dont know if the risers were ever changed but heard rumor that they are fwc and last many years. My questions are how many hours can I expect to get on the crusaders and are the risers fwc and if so how often should they be changed. We have came to terns on 15k pending survey and power trial. Please provide your thoughts and what I should look for. Thanks in advance. The boats located on Chesapeake bay.

The 10.8 is a nice boat .
Risers are never fresh water cooled , they always have raw water running through them as that's where the water leaves the engine . The manifolds may however be fresh water cooled . In salt water 5 years is a good time to replace the risers . The farther up the bay you are the less salt ,and that helps Hours are not really relevant as risers go .
1500 hours is not bad if taken care of . Some folks look for boats with very few hours . I prefer boats with higher hours as sitting harms the engines more then running them . And boats that are run are taken care of .Boats that sit may not be well taken care of .

I would also like to get a roundabout GPH fuel burn at "cruising" speed and what RPM's others are cruising at with similar boat? Thanks again!

I have a 1985 11 Meter Sedan / Flybridge boat. I can't address the risers as my boat has been in fresh water its entire life. My 454 Crusaders have a little over 1500 hours on them and compression tests and operation of the boat turn up no problems (yet).
Not sure if we're propped correctly because I've never seen the boat spin up over 3900 rpm. However, to goof around on our 30 mile long lake we rarely run up over 3000. At my preferred cruising speed of 2900 - 3000 rpm our speed is roughly 17 mph and fuel burn, per my Floscans, is 28 to 30 gph (depending on wind, passenger load, etc).
Our average over the course of the summer, and most of that is at 1200-1400 rpm, is in the area of .7 mile per gallon of gas.

I will stick with the Chrysler 360's I have in my '79 F32... I average 1.05 mpg overall with with typical cruise at 2800-3200RPM (16-21knots). I get more like 1.5mpg at 1500 RPM (8 knots), and if I keep it just under 3000 RPM I can beat 1.1mpg (before the 2nd set of barrels on the carb open).Landlocked wrote:I have a 1985 11 Meter Sedan / Flybridge boat.
