The Loop, Lake Simcoe thru the Trent
To Lake Huron, down to Lake Erie and into Lake Ontario to Trenton and back into the Trent and up to Lake Simcoe . Any info of time to complete, gas not diesel COST, as we are running 318's in our F32. Would think we would spend 2 weeks.
Season is short, we make the best of it.

"Away" - why not come down the Trent, stop over in Picton and then cruise over to Kingston, then up the Rideau system to Rideau Ferry where I'll buy dinner for you and yours, then down to Ottawa and around the Montreal loop before finally back home through the Thousand Islands and a return home up the Trent. Or have you already done that cruise?
I'm just thinking it would present less industrial water and less long distance lake travel. Jut sayin'

Not sure you can do it in two weeks.... From Trenton to Port Severn is 5-7 days and you need to allow for weather on the crossing to Tobermory and more so going down Lake Huron and across Erie. Welland to Trenton is also a good run..... Have you looked at the distances?? And you will get .8 mpg at speed..Away On Busine$$ wrote:To Lake Huron, down to Lake Erie and into Lake Ontario to Trenton and back into the Trent and up to Lake Simcoe . A buddy of mine moved a 55' Sea Ray from Midland to Montreal via Welland canal and spent $75,000 on fuel running at 25 knots and it took 10 days.... No night travel.
Rickalan's idea is better IMO.
Going quickly through Huron and Erie means you don't see much.... Which is OK if the intent is to do that loop but at what cost for seeing not much as you rush by??

Re: The Loop, Lake Simcoe thru the Trent
Not sure about the Georgian Bay / Lake Huron / Lake St.Clair portion of the route, but for the other portions I would guestimate:
- Lake Erie - about 240 miles, 3 days travel
- Welland Canal - about 25 miles, 1 days travel
- Lake Ontario to Trenton - about 160 miles, 2-3 days travel
- Trent Severn to Georgian Bay - about 240 miles, 7 days (assumes no rest days, and locking through can be hard work!)
So that portion will be about 2 weeks worth of time and 665 miles.
Running on plane (I get about 1.1 mpg), that's 600 gallons. At 8 knots (1.5 mpg) that's still 400+ gallons. I am guessing about $1.55 / litre on average for fuel this year, that's about $7.00 a gallon. So fuel will probably run you $3,000 to $4500 depending on how you run it and what kind of weather / water conditions you have. Then you still have to add in lock fees for the Trent and Welland, docking fees at the marinas you will stop at ($50 a night perhaps?), etc.
.... plus the Georgian Bay / Lake Huron / Lake St.Clair portion...
It would probably be a great trip, but to really do it justice and take the time to enjoy it, you probably want to set aside 3 weeks minimum (maybe 4) and plan to spend in the neighbourhood of $6K. More if you misread a chart!

Update
Ports book says 247 miles from Port Severn (Georgian Bay) to Sarnia Lake Huron, plus travel from there to Lake Erie.
Ports also says the Lake Ontario stretch is more like 110-120 miles. You could do 94 direct from Port Weller to Trenton, but you are more likely to do Port Weller to Toronto, then follow the north shore to Trenton.

Actually, don't know if this inspired you or not, but March 2014 issue of Canadian Yachting has an article about 2 couples who did exactly what you are talking about. They started in Lasalle, cruised Lake Erie to the Welland, then through to Lake Ontario, Trenton, the Trent Severn, Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, and home.
They cruised at 10-12 knots max (average speed 5.5knots), and took 32 days, 957km (600 miles) 126 engine hours.
Check it out!
