I've always had "Good" windlasses on my boats, they've never let me down. And the motor is easy to replace ($185) and seems to last 20-25 yrs

Did you put foot pedal switches in there as well? Not sure if I want them but was wondering if you did.

Nope....don't see the need for them. Switch on the helm.

I had the Lewmar 1000 Freefall. The FF has a unique design that causes the rode to jam, and is difficult to unjam without a partial disassembly, so I replaced it after a three years with the power up/down model. Couple of years later, the new unit unit died because the case seam has no seal and the insides rotted out. Lewmar says you are supposed to disassemble the case every year to check for leaks. If you do it yourself, your warranty is voided.

Guess what? I'm not a big fan of Lewmar.

I installed the Lewmar Profish 1000. love it!

As previously stated, the cost of the windless is just the beginning. Even if you do a self install you need to address the power source, wiring, switches, and the ground tackle. Foot switches at the windless is a great way to go in addition to the helm control. More expensive units have "free fall" also a nice feature. The Lewmar 1000 is a good choice for quality and low price.

Oh, I need a windlass too!!

I noticed that the Trojan company was not too big on adding windlasses.

I am too old and out of shape to being pulling on that old anchor.

Last year, I had to pull it up in four footers - boy oh boy that was a heck of a work out!!

Put Good Automatic Windlass on our boat last year---- got everything but the anchor as a kit---- self launch roller,windlass ,deck fairing block ,switches etc, chain and rope all to work with their gypsy,had to get the cable wiring,real nice people,the best thing ,American made in N.J ,no offshore stuff --- these are automatic design and work real nice--- all this was more than 1.5k but pretty complete-----Mike

I have been busy down at the boat and trying to get here ready for may 19th-launch date.
took out the old carpet and installing new with snaps and thinking of getting a snap cover of some type so when it is lousy out I won't track everything into the boat.Just a quick snap in type cover. I originally thought about the windlass but think I will pass for now.
I have so much more other stuff to work on but I love it.

Ken---- check out their website, Google Good Automatic Windlass ,FAQ's and give them a call,nice people ,familiar with Trojans as they were a supplier I believe----- my instal went well,fairly easy if planned and take one step at a time----I do not have a pulpit hence the need for a pivoting roller --- mine is an F850 A and I got the deck fairing block and the chain and rode--- all fits in the locker with lots of room to spare---- Mike
