cutlass bearings
Hi there I am about to slip my 10 meter express to clean and bottom paint. I will probably need to replace cutlass bearings, could some one out there please tell me the length of the skegs both the main and the smaller center one so I can buy the bearings before I lift the boat from the water.(My skegs are the original V bracket type). Thanks for your help Rex.

Re: cutlass bearings
Hello, I have records from the previous owner of my 1984 10M International which show they bought these cutlass bearings:
John-Bird: 1 1/4" x 2 x 5, and 1 1/4" x 1 3/4" x 5
I assume they installed them in the boat, but can't be sure. I have an extra used one somewhere and can take measurements of it if I can find it.
Are these able to be changed with the shafts in place? Or is it necessary to remove the shafts?

Re: cutlass bearings
You have to pull the shaft. Then take a hacksaw, remove the blade and then re-install it through the opening with the teeth upside down.
Cut through the bearing to the strut. Take the new bearing and cool it on a block of dry ice. The cooling causes it to shrink and then you can insert it into the opening. Use gloves as the dry ice can cause "burns".
Reinsert the shaft.

Hi. I posted a good method last year on Feb.2 using a hydraulic knockout set. The post was called: Easy Cutlass/Cutless Bearing Removal.

I have the mid-cabin with the single bearing per side, but if you have access to this type of tool, you can get this done very quickly and won't run the risk of scoring the inside of the strut. Good luck.

Re: cutlass bearings
Thanks! I've been reading up on it and really don't want to remove the shaft. Going on my 2nd year of owning a bigger boat and still have a lot to learn.
