Kohler 6.5 kw a27

Post by mikeandanne »

Hi guys--- a new problem has arisen---- the genny will start ok and run up to 1800 for a short time then slows to idle for a while then picks up again then back to idle then shuts itself off---- to restart I have to push the reset---- battery is fine, new cable ends, the engine is the flathead four L650 and runs like a top, good water flow--- fine all last year, this is only since spring commissioning---- I know nothing about gennies and any help would be great---- Thanks Mike

Could it be starving for fuel ? , check the filter(s) and the tank check valve .

Hard to say,I have checked the tank fitting and all is ok--- have tried running it from the aft and fwd tanks with the same result--- I will change the filter tomorrow but I really think there is something electrical, there are more switches and doodads than Carter's got pills--- Have to say I am getting a little tired of all this learning, electrical is not my strong point---the thing is that after idling it shuts down and the breaker has tripped, so what could that indicate?

a little update-----turns out it was fuel related (thanks P fish)----three separate issues, the valves that controlled the fuel feed to the genny were the wrong style and were leaking air---the forward stbd fuel tank suction tube has a hole in it about halfway down---had to change all the fittings on the fuel tree ,loose etc----good grief what next---Mike
