How to access back of dash on '73 30' Sea Raider?

Post by drjohn71a »

I think I may have some corrosion or loose wiring to my gauges, but can't see how to access the back of the dash. There's a narrow closet between the head and the dash back. The top screws just loosen a mounting panel on top.

How do you get to the back of the gauges?

wish someone could help you. I know my 77 f28 a panel in the bath has to be removed to service. in my 78 f28 the panel has a piano hinge at bottom and tilts toward the wheel which need to be removed to get full access. But it is not a 73 Sea Raider.

Thanks, Larry. The piano hinge on my boat tips out a fuse block, well below the gauges. The three Phillips screws on top remove a top plate for instrument mounting.

The head closet is directly behind the dash, and very narrow - no removable panel visible. Maybe the entire closet is removable?

Maybe the stainless trim slides off to reveal another seam. I just don't want to break anything figuring out the proper entry.

I can tell you from experience, nothing, nothing is easy to work on on a boat! Other than a hangover.
