Trojan Hull numbering

Post by AnotherBeautifulDay »

Hi Bob,

Trying to find info. on here for HIN# TRJ062900776, supposedly a 30' 1976 F-30... yet I see a '29' in there? Any ideas? Thanks!

The TRJ (Coast Guard certification number) is found on the starboard side of the transom just above the swim deck if she has a one. This would be true of all fiberglass Trojan hulls 1970 - 1992. TRJ stands for TROJAN and this is the Coast Guard certification number and the one that is often found on your registration.

The Hull number or as is some time referred to the (working hull number) is found on a tag made of aluminum by the AC DC panel, inside the door of the AC DC panel or below the AC DC panel. On some smaller Trojan under 30 ft it is often found on the back of the head door or a closet door.
On the F 30 Clean Machine it is on the inside of the closet door starboard side forward.
This Trojan tag has the engine ID number (s), inspector number and the Hull number which is three numbers followed by four. This number is its finger print of your Trojan and is the easiest to work with or decode.

The first three numbers are the model of you Trojan 321 is a F 32 Sedan, 251 is a F 25, 210 is a 25 foot Sea Raider 309 is a 30 foot Sea Raider 301 is a F 30, 440 is a F 36 TriCabin, 460 is a F 36 Sedan, 500 is a 42 MY.

The fourth number or first number in the second set is the year. Hull number 321 7045 = F 32 year 1977 second set of three is its production number in this sample 045 is the 45 F 32 built since production started in 1970.

The problem with with the working hull number is that on large production boats like the F 32 some times the production numbering started over. So if you do not know if your Trojan was was build in the 70 or 80 then you would need the TRJ number as well to know if the 7 was 1977 or 1987

If you have a wooden Trojan 1945 - 1969 then she would only have a Trojan tag as described above or before 1955 she may only have the three number followed by four stamped inside of the transom, the engine stringers inside of the engine hatch.

If you need help with a TRJ number or Hull number Please call or or E mail us at Bob@Trojanboats.net

Thank you! She should be coming to Maine later next week, and I'll look. That's all the registration has on it for a HIN#. The pal that looked at her for me and the registration both says she's a 30-footer, looks like an F-30 with flybridge, plus the seat on the bow vs. the window set up. Will keep you posted :-)

All the best,
Lorraine

She's this, with the flybridge option and teak cockpit. Appears to be re-powered with Ford V-8s? Checking on that. But, she's here :-) http://www.powerboatguide.com/Free_Acce ... xpress.pdf

Good to know re: the engines. Thanks! Took a few pics after getting her here (from Mass.) but it's saying the attachments are too large to upload. Any way around that? :? If not, I'll resize some soon.
According to the HIN#, she came off the line July of '76. Flybridge, ladder, and canvas need to be re-assembled (dismantled for hauling) & she'll be getting a good cleaning before she's covered for winter.
She's 'replacing' my old gal, a '67 Ulrichsen 31' I've had for 5 years now (wooden hull is growing weary, couple of structural rain leaks topside, & she seems to grow larger each year I get older... technology & available resources said it might be time to retire her). A fiberglass hull, some brightwork, a small bit of bottom paint vs painting everything was starting to sound good. The Trojan found me vs. the other way around... just like the Ulrichsen did 5 years ago. It bodes well.

I think this is the the other thread . My F30 came with Mercrusers 351 fords .Many had the 318 Chrysler's ( 225 hp ) I believe they may have also came with Mercruser 302 (188hp )

The single screw ones had big block Chryslers if I recall

Got any Pics of your new boat ?

Our messages crossed. Thanks for that info. So, it looks and sounds like I'll be going from an old Ford Interceptor on the Ulrichsen to twin Ford Windsors on the Trojan. I like that. ~ As for the pics (reference above post), I'll try to resize a few in the next day or so, so they'll post. Trying to get my old gal hauled later this week or early next and safely into the driveway before any late season heavy winds hit; then, I'll have more time for the 'new gal' :-)

Hailing port, Aspasia Marina, South Portland, ME. A few things left to do (like that flybridge!), but she is solid. Very happy :D
