Oil gauge

Post by vickyb »

When the boat is running, the oil gauge seems to be at 100% at all times. Needle flutters around the 100% mark. Could it be broken or should I be concerned?

Mine reads 35 to 40 lbs of pressure. It will read higher when cold.

got one of mine doing the same thing, will post when I solve it, oh yea and new engines not using the same sending unit. Me thinks the sending unit is the culprit on mine.

I replaced my gauges and posted a detailed thread on the process. You can view the thread here: www.trojanboats.net/wforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7585. I would recommend reading through the thread to get a general idea of what's involved with gauges and sending units.

Just went through similar exercise.

Long story short, temp sender went out. Performed tests to isolate that it was the sender ( grounded out to peg the guage).
Went to the MC dealer to buy a new sender and put it in. started up and guage ran out about 240 degree's PANIC set in and I shut down the engine!!!

Opened the hatch and the engine was cool.

Learned through a conversation with Bob at beacon that my 1977 has Delco guages that operate on a different ohm range than new guages. ordered the right sending unit from him and all is good.
