Another fuel tank question!

Post by 44Ydnar88 »

I have a cylinder approx 18" x 48". 50 gal. Would this tank have baffles? During winter lay up I need to decide if I can clean that tank or replace it. I'm not a fan of plastic tanks, because of the smell. But I'm currently avg 2hrs on a 20 micron filter before the filter cannot keep up with demand. Any help? Thanks fellas.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I've been through 23 filters this season! I know that's lame, but its kept us cruising!

I should have baffles for sure. I think my 60's have two actually, and my fifties have at least one, but may have two.

Speedy Tanks in NJ did a great job for me on my midships tanks. Fit perfectly and took two weeks to fabricate. They are not cheap...but not sure anything on a boat is cheap!

As a temp. fix shorten you pick up tube to help stop picking up all the crap in the tank . That could get you through the season

I attempted that, the access on deck is centered over the sending unit leaving no room to pull out the pick up. I'm still up in the air on this tank removal. I "think" if I remove the risers and and exhaust along with the ignition tray. It might come out ;/ I'm for sure not cutting the deck. And the hard top would make picking the engine difficult.
