Mercruiser Heat Exchanger

Post by Diverted Income »

Anybody know if both the coolant and raw water sides of this heat exchanger are exposed when removing the end caps? I need to check for impeller pieces if it is sea water side only. Otherwise I may wait till the boat is hauled for the winter in a month and a half or so (sniff, sniff) Anyone have experience with these? Seems like it would be raw water side only. Have ran a camera up both raw water sides but unable to determine.

Would rather fight a battle in the garage over the winter than leave the boat helpless in the slip!
Thanks!

You'd see the raw water circuit only. You'd see the openings of the tubes that the water passes through. The end compartments with the tube openings are isolated from the coolant side. The tubes run through the coolant compartment absorbing heat as water passes through the tubes.
