You are correct! Box is made out of starboard and heat welded.yorklyn wrote:What type of plastic is the sub box made out of? looks somewhat like starboard? Heat welded joints? Great job! love the spools of wire! my old windless had a 25 ft run of #10 wire! cant believe it never caught on fire! Keep up the good work!

Re: 13 meter upgrades
Port side storage compartments, the forward one has the original box with slider doors that never work and just cause the user stress.
The subwoofer box goes in the forward compartment, the rear will be housing an A/C-heat unit for the upper cockpit eventually. When the companion seat is in place you really don't have easy access to the rear compartment unless you move the seat which is soo heavy.

I had 4 of these original boxes with doors, I already tossed 2 of them, they just have no use for me.

Here is a closer shot of the rear compartment all painted with bilgecoat.
I cut a hole in the floor for the engine blowers that are mounted underneath, then I installed a toilet flange that will connect to some vent hose.

Notice the butyl tape oozing out on the side of the flange a little.

The vent hose will exit through that hole and attach to flange on vent that is not seen in picture.

Sorry, I have a terrible way of describing things, it is not hose from engine.prowlersfish wrote:When you say exhaust hose I assume your not talking about the engine exhaust ? I would seal that wood coring
Yes I put 2 coats of resin on after I cut the hole.

Re: 13 meter upgrades
I love the toilet flange! great idea for a sturdy hose flange that can be sealed! Wow those boxes are deep! cant believe you can fit an ac in one! the ones on the 10 meter are useless. I'm going to replace them with something else , just not sure what yet?????? I was hoping since ive been constantly feeding my 10 meter money it would grow up to be a 13 meter! guess I was wrong!

Re: 13 meter upgrades
actually there are numerous similar spots on the ten meter, at least on the express cruiser - probably the same on the mid cabin
I have huge Bose speakers (courtesy of the original owner) under the aft side gunnels. Plenty of space and they see no direct sunlight or salt spray.
there are two large removable panels at port and starboard at about the part where the cockpit liner ends. These are covered with sound insulation as these "boxes" also divert intake air to the engines for breathing.
Remove these and you can again have two large, downward facing speakers out of the sun and salt.
Big woofer requirements - how about the side of the wetbar?
Or the hollow gelcoat fiberglass areas below the radar arch sides?

Re: 13 meter upgrades
Wow its been a while since I updated this thread
I am not going to get into it here, but I got totally screwed over by a diesel mechanic
I thought I hired one of the best detroit mechanics on the east coast
But I actually hired a thief and criminal
If you want to read the details, they are here:
http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-for ... thief.html
Anyway I am down but not out
I just aquired these 8v71 turbos, they will be installed in the spring

Re: 13 meter upgrades
read that entire post last night and am now subscribed.
I am sorry to hear of your financial and time loss.
While a full, actual recovery of the funds and stolen parts will be doubtful, vigilante justice seems to be getting more votes as the citizens over at THT are armed with pitchforks.
I always thought the former BLACKJACK was an awesome boat, and with your upgrades, you will get to enjoy a repowered vessel for far less than her new replacement cost.
An added benefit is you have zero depreciation costs on her.
Best of luck resolving this matter and getting it all behind you.

Re: 13 meter upgrades
Sorry you had to deal with that crook . I have a few questions and concerns on your new engines ? HP and hours ? Have you had a real DD guy check them out ? Also the fit , your new engines have deep oil pans then some of the 671s . I ask because this was a issue on the last 671 I replaced . The replacement engine (also a 671) had a 1" deeper pan and it hit we had to pull it back out .
Interest project keep us posted and best of luck

I hired a mechanic from Atlantic Detroit, he spent a day going thru them and gave the thumbs up
This was a deal I couldn't pass up being in my situation, the price was right
The HP should be 462 as per the manual included, but who knows
So there was plenty of room under the pans when the 671s were in, my concern is I only had about an inch or 2 under the lowest point of the gears, so this will be interesting
They are a lot shorter overall, I had 6 mounts on the 671s, 2 forward engine mounts, 2 rear engine mounts and then 2 gear mounts
On the 871s there are only 4 mount s total, 2 forward engine mounts then 2 mounts by the gears
it seems width wise they will be a perfect drop in meaning the mounts fit perfectly on the stringers
So as I mentioned they are shorter, if I match up the front mounts, meaning put the front 2 871 mounts exactly where the 671 front mounts were, the rear mounts for the 871s land almost exactly where the rear 671 engine mount sit, so its about a foot or so shorter
I need to figure out should I get longer shafts and keep the weight and engine more forward or do I just use my current shafts and push the engines back?
Gonna also post this on boat diesel
Thanks for your help and well wishes

Re: 13 meter upgrades
Fabulous thread!! I had a friend that had a 13 meter with 6V92s that fit very well. Your 6V71s should do nicely.
