140 vx 170-180 thermostats

140 vx 170-180 thermostats

Okay, I get and understand why the 140 degree thermostat used in raw water cooled systems due to salt issues in briny water. Obviously engines run more efficiently at higher temps. Is there any reason why one cannot use a 170-180 thermostat in a raw water cooled system that is use only in fresh lake water?

The boiling point of fresh water is 212F, so theoretically running in fresh water at 180F should work.

I would not good above 160 . your still dealing with water not coolant .

So 160 should be fine in fresh raw water only, wouldn't that be better for the engine and obviously fuel use?
