tri cabin hollow keel

Post by larryeddington »

Here in the south most of us do not pull our boats for the winter so information on hollow keel dimension has to wait for a reason to pull boat. Does anyone have or can take a measurement from stern to the deepest part of the keel?

Just a guess it will be a line across the stuffing boxes but would like to know exactly so as to drill an access port for draining.

Thanks

Not sure about the 36, but on my 32 I could tell by the flexing in the covering where the hollow keel was. I was not comfortable putting a drill to it, so I used a phillips screwdriver and sort of hand drilled it. I figured that I would not be able to drill through the hull with a screwdriver. It took little effort to penetrate the covering. Then I used a hole saw to make my first access hole. I tried cleaning it out by flushing cleaner and water through the keel from stern to bow. Still had the smell so I opened up the entire hollow keel and cleaned it. No more smell.

You must be jealous of us northerners...

My Tricabin is on blocks for the winter getting new engines and generator. I'll take some good photos and measurements for you next time I'm at the boat. Might be as long as two weeks.
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!

Well jealous is not what I would call being frozen half to death. LOL

I would appreciate the information on the tri cab deepest point of the keel.

Thanks
