DIESEL OPTIONS FOR F32?

my most economical cruise speed with the 454's was 13 - 15 kts

with the yanmars it is 20-22

fuel burn is LESS THAN HALF what it was with the 454's.

A run to the keys with the 454's would require a fuel stop en route

We can NEARLY run round trip on one tank of fuel with the Yanmars.

If we are just fooling around in the neighborhood - no big deal.

Wanna GO SOMEWHERE?

Now it is a big deal

We can leave the dock at 6 AM and be in the keys at 1:30 PM

the diesels have changed EVERY ASPECT of our boating experience for the better.

Hello David,

congratulations to your upgrade !!!

Last year I had a lot of fun with a Galeon 440 Fly with 2 Volvo-Penta D6-435 with electronic handles.
Especially to drive with that throttle drive and Bow- and Sternthrusters every journey was more than easy to handle.
(my Daughter was always aboard)

Now I really think that your F-32 is the best of all here !!!

PS: I'm still driving that famous Luetje Mahogany-Vessel .

There is a lot more to a diesel then just the amount of fuel used . Its much safer increased cruse speed reliability and A FEELING that's hard to explain , but once you own one you'll understand and won't want to go back .

One engine is already in Whittier and the other one is still in the back of my truck, all bundled up and headed for Whittier in the morning. Photo ops are sure to ensue.

I know what you mean about the 'feeling' of diesels. I get it every time I get on a diesel boat. It was a major factor in converting over.

I've studied the specs from the Yanmar Homepage. Bit I did'nt found anything
about counter-clockwise rotation for the second portside engine ???

Did you get this ?

I also think that you'll need bigger Props - that's right ?

On those and most diesels ( anything recent ) the direction is controlled by the transmissions . In fact that's true with a lot of the newer gas engines .


David , They look great , one thought with this being your "forever" boat I would get serious thought to using a better exhaust riser . If not now in the next year or so .

Yes Heiner, the rotation will change in the gears and I will be going up to 17" props.

Prowlerfish, what should I know about the OEM exhaust risers?

When they fail , ( leak internally ) you will end up with water in the turbo and the exhaust . Could happen slowly or quickly . its better off to have a design where the water in the riser/ elbow will drain when shut down . In many cases the riser part is made dry and water enters the exhaust riser on the outlet side . If it was to leak then it would not go back in to the engine . Mine are elbows ( no riser ) that will drain down . Not prefect but better . Just something to think about , not a rush but it could bite you 5 years down the road . So maybe in a year or 2 , after you recover from this LOL .

The riser elbow height can be a issue on some boats , but I believe yours will be well above the water line ( 12" recommended min )
