Anchoring & Raft-Ups

Post by Lou »

I've heard of the trojan rendezvous and not sure if they still happen but I've been thinking of summer plans in the Hampton Roads area.

I'm originally from Ohio and boated with family on Lake Erie so we had nice places to boat to, Put in Bay, Kelly's Island, Cedar Point. Party places of choice and now I have seen how that has grown and is very popular. We used to always raft-up in a well protected beach on weekends.

Without joining a yacht club of some sort, is there a spot or group of people that get together and marina hop or anchor off a beach on the weekends?

Where does everyone go for a weekend of raft-ups in the Hamton Roads area?

Hey Lou, can't help you with the Hampton Roads area, but I'm in Cleveland and hit all the spots you mentioned. Nice to see posts about my stomping grounds 8) Good luck in your new spot!

Lou , there has been a Trojan rendezvous up the bay for many years . did not happen last year . Hope it will . I went to one in St Michaels in 2009 it was great time . We did a smaller get together in Kinsale ( off The Potomac ) A few of us got together in the Solomon's ( 4 boats) also a great time . It would nice to have one in this area . Although I won't raft up myself . I do anchor out but prefer marinas for something like this . I did try to do one a few years ago but it did not work out ( I will take the blame )

But its sounds like a fun idea

There are some nice places to go around here Short run to Down town , There is Cape Charles , Kings creek York town , York river yacht haven . Severn river and the east river off Mobjack bay and nice places all about 20 +- miles or so . Farther away there is Deltaville are great places off the Rappahannock riva

There are a good amount of Trojans in Hampton roads so a get togher would be a good idea

Also there is a group at your marina that do a few cruses together you may want to talk to them . ( see John on the 48 ocean )

And you can try to start one here too

Prowlerfish - I can imagine how rafting up around here is not a favorite in choice. But meet & greets or beers-n-tales are more favored. I would not raft over night with others, too much risk. I'd consider raft up in a calm area for a few hours with others, like a swim call & BBQ or what not. Marina hopping (hop & stay) is a good idea. John is a hard man to find, I only see him when I'm lucky and at my boat. But will look into the boat group there. When are you scheduled for your spring haul out? I would like to catch up with you, if you don't mind. Like to hear what you know about the old Taylor Marie. I'm even game to come to your dock if that is ok. Your choice.

So with the idea coming to the surface...
Who is game for a Trojan get together in Hampton Roads?
Where would one prefer?

I'm not sure what all is involved to start one but I'm sure a local gathering at a beach could be a good start??? Possible Paradise Ocean Club, anchor & fun?
