I am re-lettering my stern and as I suspected, it will require more than a quick clean-up and polish. In preparation for refurbishing the entire transom, I removed all the decals and hardware.
The "TROJAN" letters on the back were also tired looking. I removed them for cleaning and polishing and noticed that they are all cast metal except for the "O". It is plastic. I am curious of that was by design, or of the "O" may have been replaced at some later date.

Probably replaced later. They went from metal to plastic.

Mine are chrome plated plastic. Or will be until the weather gets warmer and I can replace with my new stainless steel ones! From Beacon.
