F36 Fuel Consumption Question

I have the 360's and I am not getting anywhere near 20mph on plane.

If you need to get to 3000 RPM to do 13kn you have a tach calibration problem, prop problem, bottom fouling problem, major trim issue, or your rudders are toed out way too far.... (or your trannys are slipping big time). Can't recall if you said this speed was measured by GPS, or by on board tach... if on board tach, it may need service.

At 3000 RPM, you should be able to hit 18-22knots. If all else is good and you have proper trim and you are still stuck at 13kn ---- how much excess weight are you carrying, or is the hull waterlogged?

It did, but I had not run the boat yet at that time.



tach calibration problem - Don't think so. But I will have a tune up soon
prop problem - Original props 16 x 16. Visually inspected by Surveyor with no faults.
bottom fouling problem - Possible... 38 years of bottom paint
major trim issue - The trims work.
or your rudders are toed out way too far - Actually has a slight tow-in.
(or your trannys are slipping big time) - Possible and I had considered this.

Speed is measured by GPS and we have had some wicked current and fog. On the ONE day where I could really run her, I was getting the speed mentioned carrying a full compliment of trolling gear and 5 adult men (probably 1,000 lbs). The hull was recently surveyed to be 100% dry. Well into the green on the meter and inspected the core I drilled for the transducer.

I will definitely keep an eye on things.

No worries about the core your hull is all glass no core

13 knts at 3000 rpm sounds like some major issues happening. I am cruising @ 20 mph at about 2850 rpms in fair seas. this is with 270 crusaders.

Rudders are definitely one thing to look at then. They are each supposed to be 2.5°toed out. Good luck finding whatever else is going on.

I FINALLY had a ideal conditions to where I can both run the boat and form an opinion on how it runs. I had flat seas, light and variable winds, and no wicked currents...

Running on plane at about 3,000 RPM, was averaging around 19.5 knots with 3 adults, 3 children, 3/4 of fuel (4x tanks) and a compliment of fishing gear.

Thanks for the Garmin info. I will look into that for sure. Good tip on the water tanks too. I always trying to figure out how to get a level sensor in those damn things.....
