If they fit they would be a nice combo , I am running a set of 300 HP cummins B engines with ZF 220A gears Its tight fit as far as clearing the floor . The "6B" from 210hp to 330hp is a common refit on a F36 . have not seen a cat in one other than a 3208 It is a lot of work to change to a diesel . alot more then just the engine may have to change fuel tanks gen set props if you have 1.5 shaft you will be ok as long as you run a 1.5 to 1 gear (or mabe a 1.25 to 1 ) any larger gear you would need to up the shaft size but then the props would be to big to clear so you need to stay with a 1.5 or less. Lot of work but it makes a nice boat.

One of the gents in my neck of the woods went this route with his F32. I believe he now has over 1200 hours on her and couldn't be happier. Of course it set him back a few $$...
In 2002, he upgraded his 1977 F-32 Trojan with State-of-the-Art Mercruiser 4.2L D-Tronic Diesel engines. The upgrade included new fuel tanks, custom designed fuel delivery system, custom fabricated welded aluminum air intake and exhaust vents, new Mercury instrumentation, King Starboard helm panels, Teleflex controls, "Strong Seals", "Spurs", new shafts and props, polished stainless steel exhaust ports, Charles Battery Charger, and much, much more. The boat now cruises comfortably at over 25 knots, with total fuel consumption under 6 gph. (Prior performance with 318 Chryslers was 40 gph at a top speed of 25 knots.)

LSP , I think you been misled .I can tell you there is no way a f32 can cruse over 25 knots burning 6 GPH total . In fact it would be more then that per engine . Diesels are great on fuel but not that great ( I wish they where )

You might want to do some investigation on the marinized Cat 3126 series. I believe there were some serious ongoing issues with the 3116?
ALso look at the total weight vs what you currently have.
Anyway it's worth some research before you gat married.
As far as diesels go, although there is some variation regarding hull design, once you get to a weight of 12,000 lbs they are a consideration, over 18,000 a necessity.
I absolutely love mine. The additional torque provides for more lift. The tabs provide zero additional speed or reduction in RPM, which tells me I am at the optimum running angle. With the a$$ out of the water she runs like a different boat. The Yanmar LP series is actually just a bit lighter than the 454's they replaced.
In addition to shafts, props, mounts, wiring, gauges, fuel lines, filtration systems, you should cnsider pulling your 25+ year old fuel tank for an inspection. Years of a rear bilge pump being inoperative caused severe pitting on the back side of mine and for safety's sake we had a new tank made.
Replace the 25 year old HVAC, water heater and genset, rebuild the sanitation system, paint the bilge and you've got a mechanically new boat.
Replace the upholstery and upgrade the countertops and fittings and you've got a completely new boat.
Financially, the only way to TRY to justify the cost is if your gas engines are shot.
otherwise...

repower
here is the link to the marina that did the repower on the '77 f-32. i have actually seen this vessel up close and it looks fantastic. i am actually thinking of having them do some of the seacock work, and bottom painting for me in the spring, but, beware, this place really charges a premium for all the work they do....they are more expensive than most, but the work looks good.

if those diesel were the 270 hp ones they are 3800 rpm diesels fuel burn at 3800 is 15'4 gph per engine 3600 its 12.2 gph at 3400 its 9.8 gph at at 32 its 8.3 gph at 3000 its 6.9 gph . at 24 knots that engine would be turning at least 3000 rpm for a total fuel burn of 13.8 if every thing is 100 %
30k for the engines installed ? sound way too cheap . BTW these 4.2 l engines not half the engine a 3126 / cummins B / yanmar / volvo is . IMO
the 4.2 would be a poor choice for a F36 IMO
BTW the merc/cummins 4.2 is is made by VM Motori from Italy

I was bidding on a 33 ft wrecked Bertram (Not sunk, dropped during hurricane recovery. A real mess of a boat but running gear good.) Anyway lost bid so will keep looking for engines. It sold for $14500.

I don't believe you could get a Cat in there without raising the floor an unacceptable amount. I put 6BTA 250 Cummins in my F-36 last winter and had to raise the floor 1 1/2 inches to clear. Go back and pull up the thread...there's lots of pictures. http://www.trojanboats.net/wforum/viewt ... highlight=
