Sling location on 10.8 Meter Convertible

Post by guntruck »

Hello, I have a 10.8 meter. When I bought the boat there was damage to both sides of the hull right above the rub rail on both sides just aft of the stainless intake grills. It was stress cracks that got worse over the years. An older guy at the marina told me it was from the yard placing the slings in the wrong spot on the hull. It seemed as though that spot lines up with the main bulkhead along the width of the boat where the sliding glass doors are. SO this year I paid 2K to have all that repaired and painted. Low and behold when the yard slinged it in the same spot (they moved the sling back as far as they could just in front of the shafts) and lifted two cracks appeared again in the same spots I just paid 2K to have repaired. I looked at many Trojans online in hopes of seeing a sling sticker or tab but wasn't lucky enough to find one. Yesterday at the yard I did see a 10 meter boat being pulled and the sling tab on it placed the sling just in front of the stainless intake grill. Could this one foot difference cause those cracks?? Does anyone know the proper sling location on a 10.8 meter convertible?
Thanks for any help.

Its pretty standard to put the aft sling at the aft bulkhead . Several thoughts I have . 1) are the slings pulling on the rub rail ? 2) Is the bulkhead in good shape not rotted or soft ? . Can the yard use 2 slings one rear spreading load ? some travel lifts are set up this way some are not . I have a many a hour on travel lifts FWIW

Last do you have photos of the cracks ? close up and far away ?

Are they lifting your boat with a travel lift or a crane with a spreader??.... because with the crane and spreader care has to be taken on wide boats to keep from pinching them if the spreader is not wide enough....

I have pics but am currently having problems uploading as they are too big. The slings dont seem to put much pressure on the rub rail but they do seem to squeeze the boat a little when lifted. the bulkhead from everywhere i can get too seems very solid with zero signs of rot or damage. not sure about the rear spreading load question. thanks for the reply.

Its a lift, it has done quite a few large boats, many with the same 13' beam.
