Some initial attempts to touch up the black stripe, a racoon-like mask around the rear stateroom of the trifly, have made me think about eliminating it. Initially it seems the stripe has been painted on? Can this be true? Or is it gelcoat?
Anyone know?
The rest of the project goes well! So far this year I have:
Rebuilt STBD carb
Installed (reinstalled) oil drain systems
Compounded pilothouse/FB
More varnish on the rail
Rebuilt aft entry
Reinstalled swimstep weaver davits
Updated stereo
Getting canvas reworked soon after yet another canvasmaker flaked
Curtains in the works????
It is paint. I redid the stripes on my F32 a while back. The biggest challenges are degreasing / dewaxing first, working around hardware (that would be a bugger to remove), and all the damn spiders and other bugs that are attracted to new paint like a magnet!
Good cleaning to dewax / degrease, light sanding to rough surface up and fair around any chips, wipe with solvent to get all the dust off, mask, and then used the 'roll and tip' technique.
Hey Barrie, thanks. Yeah there are so many bad paint jobs that I might sand er right down. By the way, I recall this post, how are the patches you made holding up? Did u use reinforced fiber stuff? I need to do that too. Here is mine from the rear.
