12 Meter International AC update

My circa 1994 salon AC had a bad compressor. Tecumseh gave me a price for $600 and I would have to braise it in. For $1600, I got a brand new Dometic 16k btu unit that will fit into the starboard closet location where just the evaporator was. Now I get the salon storage back where the split system condenser was. I called marinediscountpart.com and they said they can overnight it to me. I was leaving for a 10 day trip up the CT river and the forecast was hot. UPS dropped the ball and it never came. I noticed that the warehouse was in Lyme, CT and my first port was Essex Island, CT, 7 miles away. This is customer service. They sent a second unit to my boat. After I checked in, the new unit was in my cockpit! I had already removed the Lunaire evaporator and the freon lines and the remote condenser. Installation was about two hours for the new unit and it fits perfectly in the access area in the closet. Nice quiet unit.

The evaporator looks to be on it's last legs anyway so I'm glad I didn't just change the compressor.

Nice to hear stories like this.

There are a bunch of readers on here who won't forget the name Dometic as a result. A story like that is advertising that money can't buy.
