&& F-32 Holding Tank won't Pump

Post by lakeguy72 »

A widow at our club hasn't had anything but liquid in the tank for years. She has it pumped regularly and no problem until recently. The diverter valve has not been moved in ages. The pumpout boat guy checked the tank, the valve, but he can't get any suction. A friend ran a chase from the deck fitting and it came out wet. The vent line was clear. She filled the tank with water and a week later it was about half. No smell, no water in the bilge. Where did the water go? The line from the tank to the deck doesn't appear to be damaged.
Thoughts/suggestions?

If the liquid is nowhere to be found in the bilge, it could be that the diverter valve may be switched to overboard discharge and the liquid simply going out the thru-hull fitting. If the discharge at the tank is at the bottom off the side, this is will happen easily, if it's out of the top and the tank is full, the liquid would have to start flowing out the top and then siphoning would have to take over. If this is the case, it would explain why the tank can't be pumped out through the deck fitting as the diverter valve would have that port shut off if it's switched to overboard discharge. A shot in the dark but a possibility. Would have thought they would check for this already though. Is there a macerator pump in the system?

I am not familiar with the black water system on the F32, that being said, it seems the likely problem is the pickup for the pump out hose has broken or come off. This would mean they are trying to pump from the top of the tank which would not work. I would remove the pump out hose from the tank and attempt to look down the tube to see if it is broken or missing.
As far as where the water went, no idea.

Ok call off the dogs. The diverter valve handle was in the wrong place and once corrected everything is fine.
