Repower,
ran the boat last night for about an hour, I have a whine in the stb raw waterpump, not sure at this point if its an impeller or the bearings, these pumps came off of the 305's and are standard mercruiser pumps. the pump on the stb engine was new when I bought the boat a year and a half ago and it has less than 30 or so hours on it.
The port stuffing box got hot as well, thats an easier fix, I had really tightened the stuffing boxes when I pulled the motors to prevent any drips when I painted the bilge.
I ran her up to 1700 rpm last night and was reading 11 knots on the GPS.

, the stuffing box temp bugged me so we just cruised a bit and then brought her home.
It is awfully nice to be back on the water
OIL FILTERS
no problem on the subject in this thread, just seemed it was taking on its own life

11 knots @ 1,700, sounds like you should be able to get to the 14 knots you want

I think my boat starts to plane at 12 knots and you are now alot lighter.

Congratulations on the successful installation of your new power. I love those in line six engines. I'm interested to know if they'll get you on plane and how hard you have to push them to get you there. Have you figured out the prop size for max rpm on plane or are you set up for displacement only?
Keep us posted.

Hi all,
well I spent the weekend at the boat, cleaning up the install mess and running her a bit more. Looks like I'll have to re prop in order to get full RPM, I think I'll also have to regauge, the Tach seems to be reading low, temp high and no oil pressure (need a dual gauge sending unit)
either way, she runs great, my thermal thermometer confirms cool running temps and I installed a temporary direct reading oil pressure gauge and I have good oil pressure.
GPS recorded 16 knots at full throttle.
here are a few photos

16 knots. Not bad at all. I wager you'll get close to 20 after you re-prop. Loving the looks of those engines and your install. Very nice.

16 knots, I think that's great. Any idea what your burn rates are? Was that with tabs?

I have no way of knowing fuel burn at this point, the tabs were set at nuetral. I dont have a bunch of stuff on the boat, the fuel is about 2/3 full and full water. empty holding tank and just me aboard. (about 170 lbs)
the boat tends to jump right up to full speed , I have heard the 165s have a good amount of torque compared to its HP. seems to be true, the engines barely lug when shifted into gear.
anyways, I cruised for a while at 10 11 knots and for me it seemed to be the sweet spot as far as feel and sound. We are getting rain today, but saturday was a beautiful day to run the boat.
I'll keep posting updates, there are some general house cleaning items to still attend to in the engine room, like those loose wires running every where, the new floor board I made for the engine room, they are actually upside down in the photos, I put them in that way so I wouldnt screw up the good side when I did the install.
and things like coolant overflow, relocating the fuel filters and battery charger.
Anyways I really appreciate all of ya'll interest and input in this project !

oh, and that home insulation board on the bottom side of the hatches, will be gone very soon. When I had the stainless drip pans made, I had the sheet metal shop cut stainless panels to fit them hatches. I plan to put sound deading insulation and covering the bottome side with the stainless. However, I'll tell you the engines are surprisingly quiet now.
either way, they will look much better with the half a&& crap gone.

are you going to go with 4 or 5 bladed props? love the pics underway.
when i get a layover in SAN, how about a meet and greet? we stay near the water front by the airport.
