Seating question
hello again, and thanks for all your responces,
I have another question about the lower helm seating
I just purchased my 71 F31 and there is no helm seat at all, what I see on the port and starboard side is some type of brackets which looks like they may have accomidated some type of rod, or seat rail
does anyone know what was used for seating when this boat was new, or what can be put in its place,
I am considering a removable pedistal setup for the captains chair
any thoughts or pictures I would appreciate it
thanks

Those brackets were for seats. They hinged on the hull side on the bracket stanchons with u-shape legs which swung up and out. The seat could be folded down and out of the way for access to the compartment, etc.
You can still get them from most marine supply houses...

Yep, they are for seats. They fold down out of the way but in that position they interfere with the engine hatch....so to access the engine you fold them up and they are secured by a small cable, at least that's the setup on my F30, I assume it's the same on the F31?......I rarely use the lower helm so mine are down most of the time, really opens the area up.............John

I had the same seats on my 69 31' Trojan. I would try to replace the seats with the orignal type seats. The seats folded down easily to open up the rear deck space. The brackets on the side walls made it easy to remove the seats for major engine work, but could also remain hanging to open the hatches to check the oil or any other minor work. I reupholstered the seats and, at that point, I cut the seats down by 2". This made it easier to open the hatches and gave a wider walkway when the seats were up.
The U leg support on the port side had a stainless tee on it with a stainless foot rest. There was a bronze deckplate that the footrest sat in when in place.
I added a set of wall brackets on the port wall behind the seat and made a frame to hold the outboard motor for my inflatable. It worked great when we took trips. The motor frame was easily removed when not being used.

This is from a 1972 31' The seats may have been redone as they look a little more comfortable than what Trojan may have done...?guglielmo6160 wrote:does anyone have a good picture of the seat seat up,
Im thinking of putting one of those removable pedestal seat setups
