Boaters world in trouble

Post by GARYGA »

Hey You's Guys, I just wanted to pass on this very unofficial information, I just recieved from my local Boaters World store here in SLC< Utah.

I have a back order in for 150 feet of new anchor line which i bought over a month ago and paid for, and it was on back order. I called today to check on statis and was told from the store sales person, the following:

They will not be taking orders placed at this time because Boaters World is fileing for chapter 11 due to not being able to get loans from their bank, Wells Fargo.

Having said that, I wish I didn't have a back order with them and am going to try and get my money back if they cant produce the rope over the next, two weeks.

So I wonder how much bail out money they will be looking for

Just for information from Gary Ga geting ready to go back to the water. 30 days and counting down.........

ps I loved the picture of Simply Blessed and his boat and all that snow.

Hopefully you paid for it with a credit card and you can contact them and get the charge reversed, otherwise I'd be down there tomorrow demanding a refund PRONTO!

Gary,

Seems the owner of Boater's World owns Ritz Camera. As told to me, Dave Ritz is in trouble with the Ritz Camera stores, owning to many but being that he owns Boater's World also, Boater's World comes under the chapter 11 designation too. At least this is the way it was explained to me. How true it is????

GARYGA, Can you see if your local Boaters World store can get your anchor line from one of the other Boaters World outlets, very soon before all this goes down?

I know I should go get the return done now but the guy who has helped (for a while now) asked me to wait, two weeks. I think foolishly but i will wait. Is it so wrong if this goes very sour to take it back in trade, as in a mini shopping spree, at their expence. Of cource I wouldn't do that but its, a thought....

any how

Chapter 11 is a re-org plan - it doesn't (necessarily) mean they will close their doors. I hope (think) you'll get get your line.

"The 30 largest unsecured creditors without collateral backing their claims are owed about $65.6 million, court papers show. The three biggest creditors listed are: Nikon Inc, owed $26.6 million; Canon USA Inc., owed $13.7 million; and Fuji Photo Film USA Inc., owed $8.4 million."

I hope they don't close - not for business reasons (we do not distribute our products through them), but because I personally like the store, they make parts and fishing gear more readily available for all of us, and I hate to see another good American business fail and ...

It would be a shame to see them fail ....

I couldn't agree more! Boater's World beats West Marine's prices at least in my area. I generally go to Boater's World first but if I can't find it there, then I go to West Marine.

I spoke to the manager of the Boater's World, in White Marsh MD, today. I have know her for many years and she told me that there was a story in the Washington post today (Thursday,) that wasn't true either. The general mananger of Boater's World had called the Washington Post to complain. I told her about the story, from the Denver Post, that was referenced on this site. She told me, once again, that there were to many of the Ritz stores. Boaters World is not going under. Ritz is keeping the Ritz Camera stores and selling Boater's World but it is not going to close up and go away. They were unloading fifteen pallet loads, of goodies, and restocking when I was there today.
