Holding Tank Monitor

Post by randyp »

OK, I'm done figuring out when the holding tank is full. We spend too many nights away from the dock/pumpout, and we're both getting old and hitting the head at night a lot more.

So, what's the opinion out there? I've been looking at some external sensor monitors like SensaTank and Scad Solo as I don't want to be messing around putting a float sensor in the tank (and I'm only interested in the holding tank so don't need a multi-tank monitor).

Suggestions?

Tanks a lot!! :D

I installed a monitoring system on my holding tanks very similar to the Raritan model. I'll check on the manufacturer and post it later. I bought it from West Marine a few years ago. Since then they discontinued the line. Last year, after a friend saw my monitor, they wanted me to install one on their tank. I checked with West and they still had a single tank monitor in the warehouse. Because it was discontinued stock, I got it at a reduced price. ($74.00) Try contacting West and see if they have any more in stock.

Installation was fairly simple. 2 Foil strips are glued to the outside of the tank, and a sensor attaches to the strips. (The surface area of both foil strips had to be between 15 and 45 square inches.)(The tank can't be metal.) 3 wires run from the sensor to the display panel. 12v power is run to the panel. 5 leds show the tank level, ranging from empty to full, in 1/4 tank increments. The monitor works great. With a push of a button you know how full the tank is, or tanks are. I only was concerned with the holding tank. My water holding tank is stainless and I don’t have a gray water holding tank. The system is not to be used on fuel tanks.

Snake River Acu-Gage is what I have. Once I saw the name it sparked my memory.

I have the 4 tank model, and I got the single tank model for my friend.

Tank you very much! I've seen the Snake River, and also the comparison done on 4 of the external sensor models. I just found a wireless update on the Sensatank system that looks interesting as the sensor emits a wireless signal to the monitor. The "wireless system" I've been using is visual and auditory. When the head won't flush and it bubbles back up in the bowl the tank is full. Not a good thing.
