Under water transom lights

Post by fourreins »

I was thinking about installing some lights on the back of the transom. Does anyone have any experience with this. Which ones are good??? Do you go LED or Halogen??? Any concerns with putting another hole in the hull??? Anyone ever do it?

Go with the LED. I bought some Halogen at good price when I went to install them there was a big caution not leave them on when they are out on the water (like when on plane ) as they will over heat causing damage to the hull or worse (fire ???) now I had no need to leave them on when on plane but what if I forgot ? I waste a lot of $$$$ on something I will never use Glad I did not install them I may get some LEDs

I would go the route of the trim tab mounted lights....

I saw the trim tab lights online. I thought they looked pretty cool. I have a 10.8 and the trim tabs are mounted under the boat so I don't think they will work.

Well ... the LED lights last forever - use less power - produce no heat - and last forever ... ;-)

Did I mention they last forever? Or at least until your great grandchildren might need to replace them because the wires rot out in 100 years.

The Halogens are better for lighting up the drunk Santa on the roof!

How about the ones that just mount under a swim platform. Do you think you would get much light from them?

Yea, I want some as well. I know they are expensive to install AND the lights themselves are usually very expensive. I think the trim Tab route would be the best way to go as for value.

I had thought about it also while FREEDOM was out last month. But decided not to, because how can you keep them clean? Especially here in salt water.
