Bahamas trip

I wanna take my F26 to the Bahamas for a week of gunkholing. What do I need to know/do/buy/reserve/plan etc. Assume I know nothing and you will not be far from the mark!!

Need more information... the Bahamas covers a wide area as does Florida and there is the Gulf stream in between which adds another dimension, which should not be ignored.
Where from and where to?

I would not do it in a 26' boat based on my prior experiences in a large sailboat 70'.... but that's just me.

A bigger boat and go with a Buddy boat (or 2)( or more)

I guess from Lauderdale to Bimini, or whatever is closest, paying close atttention to the weather, going with other boats, an epirb and a life raft.

Absolutely go with a buddy boat- no doubt about it! And plan accordingly for weather.

I also think there is a fee or tax you must pay once you enter their waters.

Hey Foofer: On the "New Trojan Owner" thread, you mentioned lashing gas cans to the swim platform, then "calm seas and lift" as a means of transferring the fuel. You probably already thought of this but what about one of those hand-cranked pumps?? You can get them at most hardware stores for under $50.

Yeah a quick reformat and I am back up and running. My boat burns a round 5-6 gallons per hour at hull speed-approx 7 knots. So it would take 6-7hours at that spped or about 35-40 of the 75 gallon tank. Long drive but very doable. Of course I would only go with at least one other boat, 2-3 would be better. And the extra fuel was just a contingency/exploratory thought. It'd be nice to go 16 knots at 20gph burn.

How much fuel will she burn ruining on top ? your fuel burn at hull speed seems very high . at that speed your getting about 1.2-1.3 n mpg . your should be getting better then that running on plane and much better at slow speed .

I just read your post" 16 knots at 20gph burn." some thing is realy wrong with your boat , Thats about what I would expect out of a F32 ( a poor runing one) I burn less fuel in my F36 at 22 knots granted it diesel but still .

you should be able to make the crosing no prolem at speed if it was right .
I would get some one to look at it .

What size props are you running?

Original Trojan F32 factory specs from my manual 318's with 16x15 3 blade are:
2500 rpm 15.6 gph 15 mph
3000 rpm 22.5 gph 22 mph
4000 rpm 40.5 gph 32.3 mph

But what do you get in real life ? with a real load in your boat ?

all are boats are a lot fatter then the striped down hyped up specs in the book

Its strange how the F26 is burn more fuel the a F32 somthing is real wrong
