shore power quwstion

Post by fpawn1 »

using only one shore connection, I find my interior lights do not operate. Navigation and panel lights work.

Am i doing aome thing wrong? I read there is switch that permits cross connecting to energiize allcircuits with one cable.

Any ideas

thanks

That sounds strange... are the interior lights 12 V that work when away from shore power?
If so I'm not familiar with what could be going on when you add shore power which is 110V... the interior when 12V should still run off the battery just like your nav lights and panel still are.

One shore power cable should run any of your a/c circuits up until the point you exceed the amperage capacity of one cord at which time a breaker will pop, either yours or the docks. You should not have to tie the inputs together to power all the circuits. Shore power has nothing to do with 12 volt circuits, other than powering your battery charger.

Some things only run off the battery and others are shore powered. My cabin lights only work off 12v as well as the instrument panel.

If using 1 shore power cable there is a cross over switch you need to use . It varies on the type depending the model and year . what boat do you have ? are your inside lights 12 volt or 120 volt ? as noted your nav and panel lights are 12 volt and not effected by the shore power
