pulling props

Post by larryeddington »

Just a story of exploits of pulling the props off the beached F28 I am restoring. I have read and researched pulling a prop here and accross the internet. I wound up renting a prop puller from my local prop repair shop. It was essentially a C clamp type of device. They are pretty cheap at $78 but rental for 10 days at $18 was a good deal. The prop shop said put as much torque on the pulling bold as you can then hit the prop in the sweet spop with a dead blow hammer, rawhide or other non maring hammer. Turned out to be an easy pull. Put the puller on after greasing its threads, applied impact wrench and off both came, easy. The catch was the key was till keeping the prop from coming off. Used a 3/16 insch punch up the keyway and a pneumatic hammer to hit on the end (sing a brass hammer bit) and pushed the key loose both came off easif after then.

Posting just for information of other memebers.
