question: what would one expect to spend on a rebuilt engine? specifically, a chrysler 318?
not installation, etc...just the engine itself?
the reason i'm asking is i may have found an identical trojan as mine for sale reasonably close by, which would be a good candidate for restoring or parts, with rebuilt engines which are out of the boat.
you can get brand new ready to bolt in complete merc 350's for right at $5,000. I know you asked about a 318 but that should give you some sort of idea.
You can get Jasper re-manufactured marine engines where you can transfer your existing bolt-on items such as alternator, water pump, manifolds etc. for about $2500. I did that about 7 years ago with the OMC 350 I had on my other boat. Ran great.
I've loooked into this with the thought that one day I'd be replacing the single 318 that I have. About 2-3 years ago it would cost $2500 for a rebuilt without all the goodies bolted on, and about $4000 complete. Another grand or less for installation.
