Well What Have We Here...?

Post by Stripermann2 »

Looks as though we'll be in the camera's eye soon on the Chesapeake Bay. With special radar and cameras...pretty cool.

Some of these same cameras were installed along the St.Clair River and Lake St. Clair last summer. Since 911 homeland security seems to have unlimited funds to bolster border security. Here in the Great Lakes there's also been a huge increase in patrol boats, helicopters and planes patrolling the border between the US and Canada. This has had a negative impact on boating around here for both US citizens and Canadians.

Here in Charleston, where the old Navy base was (and sub bases), we still have the Naval Weapons Station is (and the brig where the shoe bomber is/was locked up).

Lots of security (and times when you can't go up the Cooper River at all), but it all works.

No I am not shy....I am 62 and NOBODY wants to see a 62 year-old man naked..NOBODY....not even my wife.

The great lakes Canadian borders have been a joke for years. Canada was so thrilled with the US boats coming over on vacation to spend their American dollars every summer that getting into and out of Canada was a joke. The rule used to be that you had 24 hours after docking at a Canadian port to contact customs and immigration by phone and then they only asked a few questions and gave you a customs number to display in a port side window. I have literally gone from Michigan into Ontario for 7 days and then back into the US and never contacted anyone on either side of the border - it was that easy and no one knew what was going on.

I am afraid it is not that easy anymore thanks to that jerk Osama Bin Laden. That man screwed up all of our lives.
