10 Meter A/C Strainer

Post by tsawyer »

I attemped to clean out the strainer on my A/C system.

The gaskets are shot and I now can't keep it from leaking.

The only markings I found are on the inside of the top lid and it says SVS 4.

A little internet research tells me it's a Groco SVS strainer. There are 3 models, however, and I'm not sure which one I have.

Anyone know which model was used on the 10 Meter Mid Cabin?

Thanks.

After further review, it looks like the SVS 750. Can anyone confirm that this is the correct unit?

I noticed recently when looking for new Grocos' for my boat, the different sizes seem to correspond with the different sizes of inlet/outlet barbs. Maybe if no one here has the exact model #, measure yours and compare to the specs for the one you found on internet. But I'm sure someone here has the answer.

I will take a look tomorrow when I´m down in my boat. I have the old strainer laying in the toolbox.

Our AC strainer is a Groco small. I went to Groco directly and found that they had small(AC and Generators), mediun(for the 454'6) and large for diesels. Any Groco dealer should have the replacement gasket you need.

I think it is the 750, I saved the old package and left it in my toolbox. One tip, the 2 nuts don't really provide the seal.... the center "wingnut" does that.

I found that out after talking to Groco, mine was leaking and I only had the canter hand tight. It needs to be tighter than that.

Ok, thanks for the tip.

I ordered a couple of maintenance kits for the SVS750 directly from Groco.

I thought for sure I was going to break the glass. It was turning out to be that kind of a project.

Alas, I didn't. At least not yet.

I'll give it another go when I get the parts.

OK! The one I have aboard is SVS750, so I think it´s the same all over. Strainers from the old engines (454) is much larger in volume.

I have a fitting drilled into the lid of my strainer (Groco?) that has a ball valve and a garden hose quick disconnect fitting attached.

This way I can do a fresh water flush of the circulating system after each use and have the ability to do a really quick & easy reverse flushing if i pick up debris in the strainer while underway.

This is an inexpensive retrofit that would be good top do while you have the unit apart.

I serviced my stariners last year. Pulled them apart, lubed them and replaced the ball. As Bob saiud, if yuo don't tighten to screw on the operating handle, they will leak.
