E-10 ?

E-10 ?

The marina where I keep my F32 with twin 360s just change over to E-10 fuel. I have not ran E-10 before and was wondering if anyone knows what effect this will have on the boat :?: .

Stand by for a season of boating hell ! The change over cost me 2 carbs, fuel pumps and so many filters I stopped counting them, and then the gen set up grades that had to be done. Good news it only took one season. This stuff cleans everything out of your tanks. And if you have then old steel tanks you'll have to change them along with all your fuel hoses to ones that can händel it. The corn gas will eat regular gas line from the inside out. Just do some Google checks and you'll see the nightmares.

And some have had no proplems , If you can get at the top of your tanks , I would try to run a tube to the bottom of the tanks and suck any water out befor filling with E-10 (E=evil), Many marinas Now are switching back from Evil 10 , You may find one in your area

You could haul Ethanol free gas from a nearby land based gas station. Someone posted a site that lists all the alcohol free retailers .

The only on my side of town is not near me or where I launch, but I drive by there every week and take my posse of 5 gallon cans!

usually it is 50 cents to a buck cheaper than at a marina, which is enuff incentive for me to haul it.

I did not have any problems with the switch and I still have the old galvanized tanks.

I ran the tanks down to almost empty before I had my first fill up with E-10. I also changed out the fuel filter pretty much after every tank that season. I also added some fuel additives that are supposed to help deter the ethanol problems. I used the star tron enzyme fuel treatment. Since then, the marina has switched over the ValvTect gas which is supposed to have additives already in it so I stopped adding the startron. Just keep and eye on things. I have heard some people having problems but most boaters I run with, haven't had any problems.

I have heard two local reports and have read many, many more stories of E-10 eating carb seals making gasoline leaks at the carb and gas lines creating a bomb in a closed bilge. My yacht club still sells good old dino gas and I've read that some marina's are going back to good old gasoline because of the safety issues. I think it was the Dec. issue of BoatUS magazine.

+1 To Wowzer , to those who had no troubles count your blessings. And please make sure you have the right gas lines there's no sign of damage on the outside its all on the inside of the line.

I've read the same :twisted: horrible stories, but was just wondering if anyone with the same fuel system ie 360s and galv. tanks experianced the kind of :evil: problems I read about? I can get :P good old gas about 7 miles away, but was :roll: considering making the change in case I need fuel somewhere along :?

I would by the good gas its only 7 miles . Ask your marina why the switch if the good stuff is around . I would still look at the hoses and make sure they are rated for e 10 . If they have any age on them it would not hurt to change them any way .
