Hydraulic steering leak
The hydraulic cylinder on my F26 is leaking, apparently around the shaft where it enters the cylinder. Can it be repaired, or do I meed a new one? Where to get one? Is there a bleeding process to purge the line?

If it is the old Syten system, discontinued years ago.
If replacement is needed you would probably swap up to a new SeaStar system http://www.teleflexmarine.com/products/ ... -steering/
There have been a few threads in the past about repair / replacement of Syten systems. I think I have seen different opinions on whether you can actually service the cylinders or not, and how swappable SeaStar and Syten parts are. Try a search and see if it answers any of your questions, or worst case chk with Teleflex.

i had this problem also mine was the syten system. the seal at the shaft is the problem. there really is not a way to repair this but check the link and see if you want to try it . i found this on the internet and was able to get mine apart find the correct seal and o ring but upon reassembly the housing cracked and that was that. i figured what the heck it was worth a try. the method on the link will work if your careful. the crack on mine i noticed while it was still mounted on the boat but this was not where the leak was,the crack was on the housing near the band. if you want i can give you the seal number if i can find it. i ended up installing a new seastar helm and backing plate and the fittings fit perfectly. did nothing else to the system except bleeding. i read all kinds of stuff on the internet and thought i would have to replace everything. nope didnt have to. let me know if i can help.
here the link. the seastar has a serviceable shaft seal. i found a great price on it so it didnt hurt that bad.

even though its been over a year i found it !!!!!
i'll post this info for those that are having issues with the syten steering. once the housing is seperated.
measuring the area around the shaft and its mounting location. the seal size came out to be
the equivalent to a national oil seal 323138. the details are on the link below. i was able to purchase this from my local oreilys auto parts but the seal is not hard to locate
