time to redo seats trim

time to redo seats trim

it is time to redo my seats and trim, I think (and thanks to this board) I can figure how to get it off the boat.

I like my 'guy' that does this, but I want to make sure it is right, I have an 87 mid cabin
I assume I want to use Sunbrellas vinyl for this, but do they come in grades?? I dont want my dog's nails poking thru!
do I need to replace the foam? and if so what 'grade'? does the foam get wrapped in some sort of plastic??
what else should I consider??
any quick tips on how to take out those 'bins' that are hinged in the back you see behind the seats??
as soon as the ohio gets back in it's bank we should be able to start!!

On mine, I pull the bins forward so they are open, then I just lift from the bottom and they pop out

I had some of my cushions done last year, I went with a guy from CL, he did a good job at a great price...

This is a very do'able project, that most upholstery shops can handle, as suggested in other posts, start with an automotive guy. They tend to be cheaper. Next, Sunbrella is not a vinyl mfgr, you need to us a good grade vinyl, again, defer to the pro, as for foam, yup, there are various grades, soft to hard, personally, I like a more firm foam, it tends to last longer, IMHO. The foam can be "bagged" before finally assembly, for 2 purposes, first it keeps water out, making the foam last longer, second, you can put a vacuum in and suck down the foam to get the vinyl on a little easier.
As for removal, you'll probably get atnuts from behind the combings, lots of stetching and contorting. whether or not you can re-use the foam would be based on visual inspection,

well not finished yet still in the lets look at it some more while we drink beer stage.

But any FYI, the port side cleat has become a little loose over the years and I wanted to tighten it. Last time I crawled down in the engine compartment and some how with an extension got a wrench on it (9/16 I think).
this time I figured how to remove the storage bins (and many thanks to this board) they just lift out. and guess what?? that nut for the cleat is right there!!! 100x easier, and it left more time to drink beer!!!
