Newby w/ Questions

Greetings gents,
It appears that my daughter is now the proud owner of a 1973 Trojan 36 Tri-Cabin. I've been a sailor and boat restorer for over 20 years, but this is 'my' first large powerboat. I have a few questions & will have, I'm sure, many more as this boat comes back from several years of neglect. Everything on this boat will need attention before she's all done. I can do the work myself or it wouldn't have made any sense to buy her in the shape she's in.

I'm told she was repowered about 10 years ago w/ Chrysler 280s. I won't know, until I get some serial numbers off of them, what year they are and what c.i.d. they are.

Her biggest shortcoming is that she's missing the starboard V-drive. Any info you can give me or direct me to concerning these v-drives and/or where to get a replacement would be greatly appreciated.

We need to get her trucked from Washington, DC to Hampton, VA. Can any of you recommend a boat mover? Also, I need her dimensions. Thank you, up front, for your help on this.

As I start working on her, I'll post photos, as I know, if there're no photos it didn't happen

Keelbolts , the 280 hp is a 400 CID engine , Is the one engine /v drive up and running ? as it would be easier/ cheaper to bring her to Hampton on her own bottom
What marina are you going to ? I am in Hampton my self .

Much cheaper to run down the Potomac and down the bay to Hampton. Where in DC is she located? I'm about 12 miles outside and know all the marinas.

Congrats on the boat but as Paul mentioned, you ought to consider moving her down by water. Good luck.

Not sure of the height but Trojan lists the weight as 15.500 36 ft long 13 ft wide . also seen it listed as 35.9 long 12.9 wide and 16000 lbs

They use a walter V-dive

Welcome along side. On her on power might be cheaper for sure, I'm up the Mobjack bay. Let's us there's enough of us here to help you out. But keep in mind 8 knots is about all you get for speed with 1 engine working. And would take you about 3 days. And where you doing the refit at ?

Welcome to the forum.

One of our members, Aaron, has a lot of knowledge when it comes to tri-cabins. He is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to Trojan boats and their history - especially tri-cabins. He posts and responds sporadically sometimes since he is a flight attendant but has been around lately and will probably read this thread.

Thanks for the quick replies. We considered bringing her down the bay on her own bottom, but it looks like we're looking at $1,000 in fuel. If my estimate of trucking costs exceeds that amount,we might yet motor down. Being an unknown, I'm not altogether comfortable setting off on such a trip. About 15 years ago, I went to help a friend bring a sailboat he'd just purchased down from the Potomac. The motor wasn't up to snuff & we lost the use of the rig about 9:00 am Saturday, blew down the bay sideways, and dropped a hook to keep off the beach at Cape Charles about 5:00 am Sunday. Twenty hours sideways in a gale.

Is my fuel consumption estimate off?

Strikermann2, she's currently in the Washington Marina.

It's good to know there are knowledgeable Trojan owners at the bottom of the bay.

Maybe we'll motor down...

Prowlerfish, I'm also at Southall. I saw the Saltponds homes behind your boat & assumed you were from that side. I kept 2 sailboats at Southall until I hauled the wooden one out at Marina Cove for some serious work. I'm down about 3 piers from the north end. Where are you?

Thats good ( your not myron LOL)I sure I have seen you trying to place the wood boat I the only ones I can think of are the real big one close to you and Myrons I know where the B28 is ( put it there a few years Back )
