Anyone know where I can get info on how to install a fresh water tank? I have looked high and low, but no luck. I may be ordering a TODD 6 gal. holding tank and the picture shows 4 hole, 2 are 1 1/2" and 2 are 1/2" NPT. I a little dense, so pictures would help.
I figure, 1, 1 1/2" is for the fill and 1, 1/2" is to connect the 1/2" water line to the faucet?
I was going to route the fill hose to the outside, much like the fuel and waste are.
I noticed the other day when filling the 30 year old, 20 gal aluminum holding tank, a bunch of crude at the top, so think it's time for it to be replaced.
are you saying you are only installing a 6 gallon fresh water tank? is this a misprint? if so i would really reconsider. 6 gallons is nothing and you will run through this very easily. your water pump is probably around 3 gallon a mintue. i would reccomend something larger even if you dont think you will need it. my 20 gallon isnt much for me. i realize you dont overnight in your boat but. i think for all the work to install it you would better off with something bigger. if your existing tank is bad why dont you find a way to remove it and install a new one there. if your set on on a small tank. it would be simpiliar to just buy a water can at walmart and bring it on board

I was looking around for a good website explaining how to install a tank. I didn't find much. Here are some basic diagrams and one web sit I found. hope this helps. I agree with the last post I would get the biggest tank I could fit.
Larry, you just have to bite the bullet and dig in, get the size you want, that will fit the area, close to the size of the last one and take the plunge.should be straitforward once you get your hands dirty
Please insert acceptable political or boating statement here...or not... I really don't give a crap....
I agree with the previous posts, try to keep the same size tank that you have now. It sucks running out of water when your rinsing dishes or your hands full of soap. Is your tank beyond cleaning?
Its also important to use up the water that you have on board so that your always cycling fresh water thru the system. If water sits too long in the tank without being used it can get a little "funky".

Most of our water needs are while we're in the slip, and would use very little water on the hook in one afternoon, mostly cleaning our hands. (fishing). Can also take a couple gal water in milk containers, just in case.
When I filled our present 20 gal water tank the first summer we had our boat, I drained 15 gal out that fall. I do like fresh water, and that 20 gal was more than our needs, so I'm sure it grew "funky".
To solve our water problem, I'm buying a flush mount water regulate to mount to the side of the boat to hook up to the dock water supply, which we have in our slip. This will give us fresh water daily. While on the hook, I'm getting a 3 gal tank to mount under the bow birth, that can be filled just before leaving the dock, and that will be more than enough to get us through an afternoon.
All we use are paper plates, plastic spoon, forks, etc. all throw away items. Will have cold drinks in the fridge, so most of the water used is for one cup of coffee a day or cleaning our hands.
Thanks for your suggestions and help. The diagrams were most helpful.
I have well water at the marina and it smells/tastes bad....I add about 1/4 cup of bleach whenever I fill it and that solves the odor problem. I only us it to do dishes and wash hands.....drinking and coffee water is bottled. I would replace the tank with the same size, you never know when you might want to spend some time on the hook and if you ever want to sell the boat a tiny fresh water tank could be an issue..............
