I've heard alot of debate over this. I took my Saturn to the dealership a few weeks ago and the mechanic told me should be checked when warm and running

Not sure you can even check the oil with the engine running. Think somone is pulling your chain.
I used to have an admin assistant whom we told to "rotate the air in her tires". She came in one day and said she tried, but couldn't rotate the air, so she just let the air out of all 4 tires and the re-inflated them. Ouch!
You should check an automatic transmission with the engine/trans warm (drive it several blocks) ...

Talked to a couple of friends who are currently GM and Ford dealer techs and they confirm checking oil with engine off on thier product. Also have searched the internet re the Saturn and I couldn't find anything on oil check with engine running.
