Engines, no. Engine off and preferrably level.

rbcool, I think someone is yanking your chain. I swizzle my wife once in a while but never about the running gear, it's too important.

I've heard alot of debate over this. I took my Saturn to the dealership a few weeks ago and the mechanic told me should be checked when warm and running

There is no debate engine oil engine off car or boat. thats a fact no debate. if the told you that about engine oil run and run fast.

Now that we know your talking about a car the trans is checked differently

On your Saturn you check the auto transmission oil/fld running when hot. Different then your boat.

Be sure to have the winter air changed in all your tires as well...

Not sure you can even check the oil with the engine running. Think somone is pulling your chain.

I used to have an admin assistant whom we told to "rotate the air in her tires". She came in one day and said she tried, but couldn't rotate the air, so she just let the air out of all 4 tires and the re-inflated them. Ouch! ;-)

You should check an automatic transmission with the engine/trans warm (drive it several blocks) ...

When a customer call and says they have a flat tire, I reply, I bet it's only flat on the bottom...and they say, yeah! Here's your sign....

Talked to a couple of friends who are currently GM and Ford dealer techs and they confirm checking oil with engine off on thier product. Also have searched the internet re the Saturn and I couldn't find anything on oil check with engine running.

Should add to your tires with them rolling for equal distribution!
