Toilet Suggestions?

Post by trojandoc »

Hi All,
I've read a fair bit on this forum, very helpful thanks. I figured it was time for a post. After much research, I found out that I "inherited" a 1973 F25 which I've been playing with taking apart and modernizing over the past winter here in Victoria BC.

There is an ancient toilet Raritan manual toilet with direct discharge overboard. In looking at replacement heads, but need holding tanks. I'm also looking at composting toilet option Nature's Head ($800)

Any thoughts on this. Can i pull out the old toilet and hoses while she's in the water? discharge is just above the waterline. I haven't used marine heads much, and the composting option seems like a sound option....if a bit pricey.

Thanks for all the great suggestions so far

You can but make sure the water intake to the toilet is turned OFF! And cap off the discharge line. Those should be your first two steps then proceed with the removal and installation.

Trojandoc: There is no problem changing the toilet when the boat is in the wet. Just remember to close the "through-hull" valve, just to prevent water coming in. I myself changed the bowl from a Mansfield Toilet to a Johnson type. Workes really fine. I also have a vacum holding tank. In your case there is a toilet with the holding beneath the bowl. It must be a nice thing to have, and then you also have the possibility to discharge when you are in open sea. Both Johnson Pump and Jabsco have this toilet, and the price is low.
