v-drives for 25 and 26 Trojans

Can anyone tell me what years had v-drives for these two models.

I know the 1971-72 F26's had them. Not sure about the other years and F25's.

I'm investigating the possibility of installing a rebuilt deisel in one of these and figure the v-drive will allow me the lengthwise room for an inline 6. Height may still be a problem.

What aniline 6 diesel where you thinking about ? Height maybe more of a issue on the v-drive . I believe the F was V drive and the F was not . At least in the earlier ones . But I also have seen Many F25s being sold as F26s .

Don't take this as fact , just going by what I remember reading here.

I had not picked a specific engine yet, although I've seen some 4 cylinder fords(apx.65 hp) in a couple of Trojans and chriscrafts/allmands of that size with no height problems. They where used for small shallow water shrimping boats with top end of 7 kts. At 5kts, according to the re-builder, they would use 3/4 GPH. Nice fuel consumption but a little slow for me. I'm hoping for 16 to 18 kts and 4 to 6 GPH, but that is putting the cart ahead of the horse. Any engine recommendations would be great.

My 72 F26 bearly has any room above the 318 that's in it. I know pretty much any Vortec Gm motor won't fit. I saw on Yachtworld a few years back that someone put in a perkins 50 hp 4.108 in a 72 F26 and it mounted right up to the paragon v-drive that was in it. Turned it into a trawler that went just hull speed. About 6-7 knots. I recall he burned 1/2 gph. As for newer diesels, I think the Cummins Mercruiser 2.8 may work. But like Paul said, I think the V-drive actually hinders engine choices due to height clearances in those models.

I hope you don't mind a couple of questions. I'm looking for dimensions.
1) height from the inside of the hull(hopefully not over the hollow keel) to the CL of the input shaft on the v-drive.
2) height from the CL of the input shaft on the v-drive to the underside of the cockpit deck. I know this wont be strait line measuring, a good estimate would be fine.
3) what model v-drive was installed.
And , if possible, a picture of the engine as it sits in the boat.

Thats a Cummins 6BTA 330 (315 HP ) thats a tall engine they must have raised the deck , the paragon or Velvet dive Vidrive that came in that boat would not stand up to the cummins a ZF 220V would be a good choice .
