So I'm looking at picking up a Humminbird 385ci to replace my dying Humminbird Wide-eye... As the boaat is already in the water, can I get some suggestions as where to mount the transducer in the hull for the best reading? What location are the f-25 and 26 guys using?
Thanks

Mine is mounted inside the bottom of the hull just to the right of the engine about 12" from the bulkhead between the engine and cabin. It's for a Garmin GPS/sounder and I get pretty good readings.

I have a sounder mounted in the bilge and a Garmin color fish finder that I installed on the transom. It works very well, and I can usually drop a marker or anchor right on the wreck or reef i am targeting.

I didnt know you could mount a depth finder in the bilge. I always thought they had to be mounted on the transom. What is everyone using that's bilge mountable? Are they accurate?

In the bilge is considered a through hull transducer and it can do very well. The original depth sounder is thru hull. New ones will have instructions on how and where to mount them in the bilge. I put the fish finder on the transom for more sensitivity in spotting fish, or in my case, bottom contour for finding dive sites.

The hull of Trojans in solid FG (at least it is for the F26 and F25, and I'm assuming for the other models). That being the case you can mount a through-hull transducer on the inside of the hull. I used a healthy dose of clear "GOOP" and "spooged" the thing right on the surface of the hull in the engine compartment near as possible to centerline of the hull forward of the prop...basically on the starboard side about 1-1/2 feet back of the engine compartment bulkhead. It's a Garmin 168 GPS/Sounder and works pretty well.
