Spray Rails, etc
A few months ago some of you folks were very helpful in providing me with the knowledge needed to modify my 10 meter-mid cabin to perform better.
My concern had to do with the fact that, when running into a quatering sea, I was getting a lot of spray on the windshield.
Some of you had said that spray rails would work - and they did. I installed two 20' rails, manufactured by Smart Marine - about 12" above the water-line.
Others thought that my boat was not getting up on step -they were right too. I had my 15.5" props blue-printed and the pitch changed from 15.5 to 14.
So, now, while cruising at about 3,050 rpm's, she rides much dryer; and runs about .75 mph faster, while burning about 1 gph/motor less fuel.
Unfortunately I did all of the work, beforehad the Tsunami hit Santa Cruz- but that is another story!

Long story.
Well Pesctore was looking good the day, after the wave hit. She is berthed in the upper harbor, which took the brunt of the force of the waves - pretty sure that there were about 11 waves with the highest being 8'. The upper harbor is narrower, than the outer harbor and as the wave progressed up the harbor and was compressed by the narrower chanel, it rose and became more violent. About a dozen boats were sunk and one entire dock section was ruined, among other things.
There are some pretty awesome videos on utube.
Apparently my boat bottomed out pretty hard a few times.
I had my diver take a look at the running gear about ten days after the incident, when the water clarity finally became decent. He said that all looked fine.
When I used her the day after the diver did his inspection - opening day of salmon season - she seemed to perform fine. But, the following week I noticed that I was using more fuel and going slower, than when I had gotten her out of the yard three weeks previously. So, I had the props pulled and sent to be blue printed again.
But, she still was acting strange. So, I sent a diver in again. He discovered that my trim tabs [brand new, when I hauled] and rams were gone. Apparently the attachment point at the transom had been weakened and they tore off, when I was running. And, he determined that one of my rudders was bent.
At this time, the props are fine and the tabs are replaced. My performance = what it was before the wave. I will deal with the rudder, after the summer fishing season.
You asked for it!

I thought we had it bad here with Hurricanes... I heard about it on the news but really didn't see much footage. I don't think my boat would have survived something like that. Sorry to hear about your damage. Based on some of the video it looks like it some boats faired a lot worse.

It surprises me that you needed spray rails with those big chines on the 10M hull. I assumed your chines were your spray rails.
I placed some 30X12 bennett boards with drop fins on my 10.8 and it has made an incredible difference with the angle of plane of the boat, and has allowed my to plane off at almost 12 MPH. The wake is pretty ugly, but I'm out of the water and can actually see in front of me. 3000 to 3100 RPM seems to be where the engines sound the best and I am at about 18 to 20 MPH. Of course I don't have floscans, so efficiency may be another matter. I would highly recommend bigger tabs.
Next performance project will probably be 4 blade props. I currently have 22X22 3-blade with a 2.5 reduction gear. Now if I could only pick up a pair of cheap slightly used ones, I would be happy.
