chrysler timing chain slack

Post by larryeddington »

My 318s had a roller chain originally. The two Jasper engines have non roller. Thoughts & opinions on how much slack should be in a new non roller timing chain?

Some slack is normal , Roller is not needed , just make sure no nylon gears are used

Thx paul, I am putting in a new one in case. Half inch worries me. When port engine together will start bothon stand and send pics. Then task is to spiff up boat itself. Tthink will name it The Phoenix

New chain solved the problem. My analysis of causation was that the "mechanic" who accessorized the new engines did not move the timing oil drip part from old engines to the new. Moved them from my old engines and installed them on new with new timing chain. Now are tight as they should be.

Will complete Port engine today, which on the F28 is the left (CCW) hand rotation engine but due to V drives twists the Port Prop CCW also.
